The woman died 10 years later following a battle with cancer. Her father was Jewish, and she was brought up in Reform Judaism. Handler began acting in order to earn some money. Handler began to do stand-up comedy full-time when she was 21. She realized she has a knack for storytelling. Handler began her career in her role on the Oxygen Network's Girls Behaving Badly which was a reality program with a hidden camera/a joke. The show was on the air from 2002 until 2005. Handler began appearing in other shows such as Weekends at D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler also started her career as an associate on The Tonight Show. The biggest break for Handler came in 2006 as she began hosting her program on E! named The Chelsea Handler Show. The show lasted 2 seasons. Handler also performed in the US as part of the Comedy Central Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour. Stand-up comedy performances from Handler are telecast on VH1 along with Comedy Central's Premium Blend, and HBO. She was named as host of the MTV's 2010 MTV Video Music Awards in the year 2010. With this, she became the first woman to host VMA's, following Roseanne Barr.
